During the 2020 UK lockdown, Photofusion’s youth collective S2AU started meeting on zoom. They kept talking about the struggles of staying motivated, keeping the creative spirit going and creating something that would connect all the young creatives experiencing the same thing.

So They Did.

a modern dictionary.

S2AU created a series of talks and workshops around creating a modern dictionary of the word, “fam”. We spent hours and hours on zoom chatting to artists in London about how fam was used in their work and also how they made it in the industry. These talks were often about money, commissions, professional equipment and working in the creative industry.

Everyone had a different story.

about

s2au

S2AU (Sorry2AnnoyU) are a group of young creatives who found each other whilst creating and vibing at Photofusion. Over the last year, they have worked alongside the team at Photofusion to create a space of growth for young people. A space that allows people to find their own fam whilst developing their skills as artists, curators, practitioners and future leaders.

From the beginning, Photofusion has championed, supported and celebrated photography and photographers. Located in the heart of Brixton, they are one of the UK’s largest and most comprehensive photographic resource centres with darkrooms, digital printing facilities, a gallery space and an education programme.

Photofusion have supported some of the UKs most well-known photographers at early stages of their careers. This project was devised and run by the Photofusion Community Department and its Engagement Manager D.Wiafe. Over the last 7 years, Wiafe has been cultivating youth-led projects and collaborations and continues that work at Photofusion to present an unseen portrait of the adolescent experience.
